Don’t get caught out with the new emission level rules!
Transport for London is introducing new emission level rules for all chauffeur and private hire vehicles which will come into effect from 1st January. If you intend to run a brand-new diesel/higher emissions vehicle and wish to obtain a TFL license, you will need to be registered and subsequently licensed with TFL before 31st December 2019. Beyond this date, under the new ruling, TFL will not permit brand new diesel/higher emission vehicles which are not zero emission capable to be licensed for chauffeur or private hire use.
What happens after 1st January 2020?
From 1st January 2020 the new emissions standards apply, meaning all chauffeur driven and private hire vehicles will have to be zero emission capable (see notes and link below). If you intend to run a lower emissions vehicle, the new rules are below.
Can I still purchase a new diesel/higher emission vehicle prior to 1st Jan 2020?
Diesel/higher emission vehicles can still be licenced under the current TFL regulations before 1 January 2020.
